Ken-Rock Community Center
Hosts Successful Back-to-School Bash in Partnership with Northern Illinois Food Bank
Rockford, IL — The Ken-Rock Community Center proudly welcomed hundreds of families for its annual Back-to-School Bash, a high-energy community celebration designed to prepare local students for a successful academic year. The event brought together families, volunteers, and community partners for a day filled with school supplies, activities, encouragement and most importantly meals for every child in attendance.
A major highlight of this year’s event was Ken-Rock’s continued partnership with the Northern Illinois Food Bank, whose generosity ensured that no child left hungry.
Fueling Students for Success
Through this powerful collaboration, Northern Illinois Food Bank provided nutritious meals for all children attending the Bash. As families arrived to pick up backpacks and school supplies, volunteers distributed meals that were both kid-friendly and nourishing reminding families that Ken-Rock is committed not only to educational readiness but also to food security.
“Making sure children have access to healthy meals is critical especially as they prepare to return to the classroom,” said Executive Director Savannah Palmer. “We are incredibly grateful to Northern Illinois Food Bank for stepping up and making sure every child who attended was cared for.”
The partnership reflects a shared mission: strengthening the community by addressing both immediate needs and long-term opportunities for families.
More Than Just School Supplies
The Back-to-School Bash offered much more than backpacks. Families enjoyed:
- Free backpacks filled with essential school supplies
- Interactive games and youth activities
- Community resource tables
- Music and family-friendly entertainment
- Opportunities to connect with local leaders and volunteers
- And a fresh haircut for all children in attendance!
Children left not only prepared with materials for the first day of school, but energized and encouraged to start the year confidently.
A Community Effort
