Ken-Rock now enrolling students into Summer Excellence program

ROCKFORD – Ken-Rock Community Center now is taking applications for its Summer Excellence Recreation Program.

Ken-Rock’s summer program is 11 weeks of fun, character building and education for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Each of the 11 weeks has a theme with a plethora of planned activities such as jumpolines and squirt gun show downs to bowling tournaments and making friendship bracelets.

The Ken-Rock program includes weekly field trips to places ranging from Alpine Park Pool and Magic Waters to the Forest City Queen.

Although summer is meant to be fun and a break from school, the Ken-Rock program also includes focused reading time to help prevent the summer slide – where students who don’t read regress from the prior year’s lessons.

The cost is $100 per week and that covers children from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. If you need to drop your child off before 7:30 a.m. it is an additional cost of $20. For more information, contact Ken-Rock’s Savannah Palmer at 815-398-8864 or at
