Ken-Rock adds youth indoor soccer leagues to end of summer schedule

Ken-Rock Community Center is adding Saturday indoor soccer leagues for kids ages four to 10 years old to its already busy menu of youth sports. The leagues will run from Aug. 19 through Oct. 7 at the 3218 11th Street community center.

It’s the first foray into soccer in more than 10 years for Ken-Rock.

“I went to watch my granddaughter play last week and got hooked,” Ken-Rock Executive Director John Guth said. “We are in the kid business and my job is to provide any and all services within my power and resources. We have space, gym, kids and an administrator. All the pieces are in place for us to run something in south Rockford.”

According to, soccer continues to grow in popularity in the United States. In the fall of 2009, 11.1 million in the U.S. had played soccer at least once in the prior 12 months. In the spring of 2016, that number had grown to 15.8 million.

The leagues and age levels for Ken-Rock will be:

  • Pre-K/Kindergarten: Tiger Tot League
  • 1st-2nd grade girls: Lollipop League
  • 1st-2nd grade boys: Jelly Bean League
  • 3rd-5th grade girls: Cup Cake League
  • 3rd-5th grade boys: Big Cat League

There is a $90 registration fee for those who sign up by July 28. The cost increases to $100 if you sign up after July 28. Your registration fee pays for a soccer shirt, shorts, socks and an end-of-season award.

There is no experience necessary to be in our leagues. Other things you need to know:

  • All games and practices will be at Ken-Rock, 3218 11th St.
  • One practice per week, set up by your child’s coach.
  • Parent/volunteer coaches are needed. A parent who coaches a team will have his or her child’s fee refunded at the end of the season.
  • All players completing the season will receive participation awards.
  • There will be no refunds after the first practice and any player dropping from the program for any reason will be subjected to a $20 processing fee.
